Ok so haven’t updated the website with a blog for an age sorry so here goes a big old round up of what has been an incredible 4 months of touring on mainland Europe, 8 months being back on the road full time in total and being an amazing year for me. So I guess an end of year round up as it where this is.
So the start of the year was in Australia actually on Holiday for the first time in years although I did play a show was a nice relaxing way to start the year. Then once I was back in the UK took up a 3 month gig hiatus (only doing a one off performance with my friend Diane for her birthday show). During this time off I finished up the work left to be done on “Grit” the new Tim Holehouse album and started work recording and working on a new Timothy C Holehouse record as well as material for the end of the tape cassette series.
Then in April the new line up band hot the Mainland for a tour in Switzerland. It was an incredible journey with some amazing getting lost in the French Alps. Was a great time and thanks to Chris (tea wig), Youngy (…and then they sang!) and Ian Middleton (who stood in for Mike as he was unable to make it and did a sterling job). Thanks to Andre from Ad hoc who booked the tour and Del flume who we toured with who were awesome.
Then May rolled along and after the Band tour I went back on the road full time a bit earlier than expected, but actually very pleased to hit the road again full on. The first tour was driving round my good friend from Canada Octoberman (although I ended up playing a few of the shows) was nice be able to help a good friend out.
Then after a few warm up shows in the UK, the tour kicked off properly with a US tour. It was my second time touring the US but the first time on my own making my way across the country, but I had an amazing time and it went pretty damn well minus one allergic reaction and one power failure at the venue. But like to make a special thanks to up all night bar’s Timber, Marc of bloody minded, Peter Sotos, Kahlil, Tommy Monster, Barbara, Merlin,, Alison (awesome colour), Michael (awesome colour) and Colin Langneus for all their help with sorting me shows, housing me and feeding me. It’s really appreciated. A longer tour of the US will happen this year 2011 hopefully.
Then once I was back I played a few UK shows and then the first of a few brief trips to Europe one of which ended with me attending the wedding party of my good friend Craig Berjing (oldseed). Other tour highlights from the summer included touring with Head of programmes round the UK, playing on a beach with Spooky man and Gipsy Rufina in Italy and Bamboole festival which despite being muddy as fuck and involved me camping was lots of fun! .
Also during this time I played in Hong Kong thanks to an invite from R.S. Seizure to play his Noise festival. The time there was great nice shows, the Wanch, the rock school and festival being highlights as well as some new ink thanks to Julia Seizure (Ross’s wife you may have guest). See picture below. I also collaborated with Ross’s Band Black Reign at the festival providing some vocals and guitar noise! Thanks also to Author, Paul, Michael and Horacio Pollard.
Then to End the summer I took an Ireland, Scotland and north of England tour with my good friend Calum Carlyle which despite a few dramas at the start was excellent fun by the end of the tour and it was a real pleasure hanging and playing with such a talented fellow! Thanks also to Pete in Belfast, Ian Comply or die, Aonhgus, Danny, Mike, The straight edge kids for not judging me, Alabama 3 for jamming with me and Mr Andy Wilson.
Then the start of the longest I’ve been off the UK for one stretch started! I started in the tour in Utrecht with and amazing musician named Bart Van der lee stunningly nice chap and incredible songwriter and singer. I played a few dates in the Netherlands and Belgium with him before I head south and eastwards to the Czech Republic. Where I met up with my good old friend from my days living in Croydon Mr Stuart Mills (Gerda: Blank) Thanks to Stu for hooking me up and was great seeing you again bro! Play a couple nice shows there then headed to Latvia (Via a massive geography fail on my part Latvia and Czech republic are not that close together and I ended up getting a flight from Poland in order to get there). In Latvia I met a stunningly nice bunch of people and my tour booker Sandis (Ulver agency) was a legend. But also thanks to Gabriella his lovely girlfriend for housing me, Authors for being a dude, Fridiez the mad cat and Edgars Rubins who is the awesome noise dude I played with on a few of the shows (I think he had even more pedals than I’ve got!). Then from there I hit Lithuania where I met Arma a very nice gentleman who is into his noise music so awesome time where to be had. Paying at his club Kapualt and X120 (the best decorated squat ever!) I played with the lovely and wonderful Banana Pill (from Finland via Russia).
After that it was onto Poland where I hooked up with my guy from Preston now in Poland Robbie Juddkins after a long train journey and not eating all day then to be greeted by a Robbie Curry as I arrive was incredible! The Polish tour was great fun and thanks to Robbie, Ania, Michael, Kamhil and all the lovely people of Poland.
I then left the east back west to Amsterdam (having the worst night of my touring life after maybe my night sleeping rough in Paris). If you want to know more about that will be in my book when I write it… ha ha! Then onto Antwerp, where I hooked up with Ad Hoc from Switzerland for a tour. The first night we were joined also by Gipsy Rufina from Italy who was recording in Antwerp. After a night at the boomerang hostel where we played drank and had a thoroughly lovely time. We played the Joker which I think is one of my favourite bars. It certainly got me drunk thanks to our lovely promoter Sam and his wife Sharon. Then the tour took us to Holland and Belgium some more, playing in lounges, big venues and all sorts. Many thanks to Eduardo, Marten and Karen (for the awesome house show), Wem and the cine Palace, Inside out club. We then drove to Berlin taking 1 hours’ drive to find that the club had flooded but the lovely young ladies from the royal chord fed us and we stayed in a very nice place, so all was not lost. After a brief stop in Berlin a nice stop in Mansbach thanks to Smasha and Kassle thanks to Andreas, Christoph and all at Unten and many thanks to the royal stereo for being awesome party dudes! Then finally left Ad Hoc after the final show in Basel I left to Augsburg. A German town I’m very fond of and even have written a song about. Thanks to Volker for being a star once again, Tina, Tati and all at Keurze for an ace night. Then it was on to Austria where I played in Vienna (Wien) with the awesome Rika and Sea sick yet still docked. Then onto a real tour highlight Graz on Halloween! Was an amazing show and I can’t thank Birgit, Misha, Helga, Rachel, Annabel and the all for their hard work not only putting on the show put making me some awesome Mr Vampire T shirts which I’m hoping to have to re stock soon and sell through this here website.
I then moved back on doing a brutal journey, Graz to Brno to Locarno with pretty much no sleep. Was ace jamming and playing a few of my songs with gerda: Blank cheers Stu again! Then Playing Locarno with the wonderful and Charming Octoberman and his band. Thanks also to Ronnie and his family and the Canetti for constantly being amazing!
Once on from there a trip to my old friend in the Rumpletum, thanks to Gabriel once again man! Then back to Winterthur a town I’m also very fond of in Switzerland where I stayed and must thank immensely for this amazing video. Fabian Luscher. I must also thank his brother Simon for the awesome show at the Widder and Roman (the naked guy in the video) for an amazing night and my first fondue!
Then was the last show as a 33 year old man before I became a 34 year old man. I played with my good friend Oldseed and his band Bird. Thanks also to Nicolette for the show in Mainz. Then after a small break with my beautiful Girlfriend Dagmar, it was back to it. I went to the Basque region to play first of all meeting the lovely Hoedi who was a super star of a guy!
Then it was onto Catalonia where I met Gispy Rufina and the incredible Alberta real awesome dude who not only booked the tour drove us and worked tirelessly on our behalf to make shows happen and get us some cash to keep us going. The man is a legend! Also thanks to Mauricie who is an amazingly talented and nice dude who plays under the name the missing leech!
After this it was Italy bound with Gipsy where we played a very zig zagged tour over Italy. Thanks to Francesca, valeria, Bra, Andreas at rock cycle (and awesome record and clothes shop I played who have my records in stock if you’re in Rome), sinister noise and my dudes in San Salvo.
Then it was onto Berlin for a show at the venue that was flooded previously Madame Claude’s but this time wasn’t and the show kicked arse! Many thanks to Julian for the show and Damian for sticking me up. Then onto Rostock where I met Fritz and Marco two lovely guys who rap in German. Awesome dudes! Also ended up playing a medieval market (although was told I wasn’t medieval enough by a guy who had seen me the previous night playing my blues). After that it was back to see Mike Dobber and the Crew in Eindhoven before heading to Lier to see my friend Ruth and her sister Lynn and playing an impromptu show in their local bar. Before back to Antwerp, a radio session in Leiden with Marco and Eduardo.
Then I rounded 2010 off with Mr Dusty Awe doing a couple of shows in Denmark and one in Ulzen in Germany. Thanks to Knut, Michael, and Stella. For a great time to see me to Christmas.
Then after a short Christmas break (Thanks to the family Tolonen for a wonderful Christmas) I played a few shows in Finland, Thanks to Dmitry, Pavla, Lissu and the Blues Bar for an awesome stay in Finland.
Then I headed finally back to the UK but first via Estonia for the first time, cheers to Keti, Grass blowing guy, Elijah and the gang at the east galleri. Then back for two shows in Latvia thanks to Sandis again and Gabriela again for their kind hospitality. Jelgava for kicking arse again too.
Then onto Lithuania for a flying visit to X120 Thanks Mic, Simona, Luke and the gang for being so Kind.
Then it was an overnight bus to Poland so I could arrive in time to Play at the school Robbie Judkins teaches at. Was fun playing my songs and explaining them to the students. Then a fund noise show that evening thanks to the guys for the show and Robbie for the fun collaboration. The blast show in Poland was at Robbie and Ania’s house and was an amazing party and met so many nice people that night.
The last show of the Tour was in France in Lille, was erm an interesting show playing to meth heads and bar men who go back on their word and are rude. But I did meet and stay with an awesome dude named Hugo and thanks to him (and his sister Marion for introducing us) we had a good night still.
So yes amazing year all round it went by really quickly and now I’m on the road pretty much most of the time feels like I’m living in fast forward. It’s been 17 different countries and 8 months of touring which has been a lot of fun. Thanks to everybody who has made this possible.
2011
So the plans for this year are so far are to keep touring the “Grit” album which came out in November after a series of long delays and “in search of the Binary star” the Timothy C Holehouse album. The tour will go from the UK tour during February and Early march to a band tour in Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Austria and the Netherlands. Then back to Ireland to do a short tour with Comply or die and some solo dates.
Then I plan to head to France, Spain and Portugal for a brief tour before heading out to the US. After that I plan to hit Scandinavia before heading back to Mainland Europe again for another Autumn and winter tour.
Releases wise, there is plenty up and coming too…
From Timothy C Holehouse I have a split with left arm cuts off the right (aka Mr Robbie Juddkins of the bog people) that will be a lathe cut 10” and will probably have some other goodies besides.
The Release with Attack! Vipers! Is sadly no longer going to be collaboration because of time constraints from both parties and will be a straight up split record. But a nice special picture disc 7”.
I’m also hoping to release finally the” into the Black void EP” which has been finished for a while and just needs some artwork to be completed.
Lastly from Timothy C Holehouse towards the end of the year my new album will hopefully be released on dead pilot records towards the end of the year on double gatefold Vinyl and will be titled “The earth crumbled into the ocean, as flames licked the sky, we hung our heads knowing that the end was nigh!” It’s a 4 part album with each side of the record containing one piece. It features all the members of Electric mud generator and was recorded like Binary star by Robert Hobson.
Then for Tim Holehouse I will be doing a split 7” with my good friend Gypsy Rufina. This will feature a new version of Good morning, Mr Vampire! As well as a brand new track which I think is very different from my previous work.
Then I am hoping that two tracks left over from the “grit” sessions will also be released only not included on the album because of the fact they are very different in sound to the rest of the album. One of the tracks being a rerecorded version of vessels that sail in the night, from the first album “found dead on the shoreline” which is Long since sold out. The other being the 7 minute epic “Transient tales of a lost soul”.
The last thing to possibly see the light of day this year will be the new Tim Holehouse album “A man walked into a bar…” although it may possibly be released early in 2012. It will be recorded in New York In July this year and features songs I have been writing since I have been on tour since May.
So all in all a crazy busy year last year and this year is set to be even busier. So thanks to all who have made this possible Promoters’, label folks, people who have put me up, people who have fed me and most of all the audiences who have watched me play. Without you all I could not have done all this and I can’t thank you enough.
Kind regards
Tim
